Nagara Shiva Temple is a registered charity in the U.K. conducting monthly poojas at a Hall in St.Albans, Hertfordshire. Every pooja is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Saivism. We make an effort to revive the traditional methods of worshipping. We also teach and sing Thevaram, a Saiva narrative of epic and puranic heroes, as well as a hagiographic account of early Saiva saints set in devotional poetry. We started as a small group in 2019, however our support is growing steadily and we now have more than a hundred devotees visiting each month. Volunteering your time and ideas not only benefits our charity, but it can be deeply gratifying for you too!
Our aim is to build an iconic place of worship in the U.K. for Lord Shiva and other deities as per Saiva Agamic texts. We have now identified a suitable site/building for our charity and it will really help us to do more for the local and Hindu community around the world. We are raising funds to purchase the property for building the temple. This is a herculean effort that cannot be accomplished without your support. So please donate generously - you can pay directly using your PayPal account:
Importance of Building a Shiva Temple mentioned in Thevaram by Appar:
A place without a sacred shrine, A place where residents wear not The white sacred ash, A place whose people bow not And sing in devotion, A place deovoid of many lovely Shrines, A place where men do not, in love, blow The white conch, A place without festive canopies And white streamers, A place whose occupants do not Pluck Budding flowers to offer them in worship and then eat; These are not towns at all, but only forests and jungles.
